Up for sale here is this complete rebuild kit for the Pioneer SX-1980, except that there are no power supply board parts included. This includes all the parts you need to rebuild a Pioneer SX-1980 (except the power supply board), and includes the correct size replacement main filter capacitors. This does not include new lights, fuses, or any resistors. This also does not include the driver or output transistors. Please don’t buy any of the Chinese output transistors on eBay–those are counterfeit and may blow up. I also have a complete incandescent light kit available here, and a complete LED light kit here. A lot of folks will replace the entire power supply board with a completely new redesigned board, available on eBay from another seller (just search for SX-1980 power supply). If you are doing that, you obviously won’t need the power supply kit, which is why this kit does not include it. If you are looking for the complete SX-1980 rebuild kit, which includes the power supply kit, that is available here. This kit includes replacements for all the electrolytic and tantalum capacitors in the receiver, including the four main filter capacitors, which are replaced with 3-inch 24000 uf 100v Chemi-Con caps, which were Made in USA in 2021 or 2022. The new caps are the same diameter as the old ones so they will fit the old clamps perfectly. There are four 2.2 uf 250v Panasonic film bypass capacitors included as well. The kit also includes replacements for almost all the transistors on all the boards, except there are only replacements for Q1-12 on the driver boards–the others don’t generally need replacing. Also, the FETs and tuner board transistors are not replaced. These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts, the same parts I use when I rebuild Pioneer equipment. I have rebuilt quite a few of the big Pioneers over the last few years. The SX-1980 is often considered Pioneer’s best receiver, and it deserves a high-quality rebuild. Capacitors are Nichicon PW, Nichicon KL, Panasonic FC, Wima film, Panasonic film, and Chemi-Con for the main filters. Transistors are Fairchild/Onsemi and a few Toshiba. Trimmers are new Bourns trimmers, and VR1/2 on the amp boards is replaced with a 200k multi-turn. There are four mini adapter boards and four SMD dual transistors to replace the two 2SA798s and two 2SA979s. You will need to assemble these, so you’ll need either a very fine-point soldering iron tip and very thin solder, or you’ll need SMD-working equipment. Or you can skip that step. There are a lot of bad transistors in the 1980, and they desperately need replacing. No one else is as obsessed with replacing transistors as I am, and no one else includes replacements for as many transistors. Your receiver will sound so much better with those ancient 2SC869s and 2SA726s gone. The proper low-leakage caps are included. There are loads of Nichicon KL and Wima film caps in this kit, which are necessary for a correct rebuild. This kit includes a total of 182 parts, which is more than most of the kits I sell. This will be a long, slow rebuild. The parts for each board are individually bagged for ease of installation, and the instructions will tell you how the transistors and diodes go in, but there are a LOT of parts to replace here, so if you do not have a lot of experience with vintage gear I would not recommend starting with this one. You should know what you’re doing and have a good soldering iron, a desoldering gun such as a Hakko FR-301, heat-sink compound, and a dim-bulb tester with 100W or 150W incandescent bulb.
