This tube is a Western Electric 2C51/396A triode preamp tube. This is a early variant 1951 tube with three black plates, the middle one being super thin, with a slightly angled square getter on top that is identical and construction to five known military tubes from slightly later than this tube, that I sold recently.

These are the original 12ax7 tubes from a Dynaco PAS-3X preamplifier. They have approximately 85% of their life remaining. I tested these on two separate tube testers, and all measurements were confirmed. Each side of each tube measured 84 or 85 percent out of 100. They are very closely matched.
