A simple upgrade for increased playback performance. Turntable changers of the era typically use a multi point ball bearing system (as opposed to single point commonly used today) made of a ball cage sandwiched between two thrust washers. While most manufacturers use hardened steel for their thrust washers, the metal to metal contact between the washers and ball bearing create friction and noise responsible for a major part of the undesirable low frequency rumble. To help correct this problem this bearing is sometimes placed inside a cup filled with oil or grease which requires constant lubrication from the user and will eventually oxidize and dry out. Elac uses a design where the cup acts as the bearing thrust washers (as seen in the photo) and is made from a plastic material eliminating the metal to metal contact normally found between the washers and balls. The ball bearing however are loose which are easily lost during service and are a source of friction between them creating drag and noise. Our bearing correct all these problems by using an enclosed bearing cage eliminating any possible fritction within the system and is self lubricating requiring no additional lubrication by the user. The result is a net reduction in playback noise (rumble), a noticeable improvement in speed stability and a maintenance-free bearing system. Combining this bearing kit with our idler wheel will improve two of the most influential mechanical noise sources and reduce low frequency rumble to its minimum. Low cost drop-in replacement; simply remove the old bearing and replace with this one.
